Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be adapted into a dice-based role-playing experience. A partnership has been formed to create a TTRPG that explores the series' post-pandemic landscape. This initiative has been announced, with a funding drive planned to launch in the spring of 2026.

"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the table, offering fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an announcement.

Initial offerings will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, figurines, and various premium versions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, sending the United States into chaos. As the pandemic escalates, society crumbles and hostile groups rise, transforming the city into a warzone. To preserve order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. That’s where the players come in.

Development on the game has been in progress for about three years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a broader market, particularly in the United States. Manufacturing will start immediately following the fundraiser, with shipping projected for the latter part of 2026.

A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

A preview at the system reveals it employs d10s predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and strategic style. Agents leverage abilities to assemble a handful of dice, usually from one to five d10s.

  • Rather than adding results together, players choose a single “resolution die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then compared against a set challenge number.
  • Achieving a perfect 10 triggers special effects, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.

Combat Focus On Positioning and Awareness

Battles prioritize positioning and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like cover, elevation, or line of sight have a direct impact dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to reward coordination and clever tactics over simple statistics.

A Novel Wound System

The way injuries is tracked adds a compelling narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their capabilities by decreasing the size of their dice pool.

  1. At zero health, an agent collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
  2. They can still move and take limited actions, emulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
  3. Any agent in this state must roll on a trauma table, risking persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.

A Ready-to-Play Adventure

A free Quickstart Guide will be released in the near future. It contains a pre-made introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an assault by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the full range of offerings will be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
