The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
