The original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for a new pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, disclosed that he plans to independently develop this new flavor as part of an individual collection highlighting issues the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Between Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest development intensifies the continuing conflict among the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders maintain how the parent company along with its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur announced through an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions regarding the product's name and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem for support for the Palestinian people due to its colors, which closely resemble those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism plus Current Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling their Israel business to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company that originally created several years back to support ex- political contender Bernie Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Future Plans

Mr. Cohen stated that he plans to develop other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, following decades with the organization, citing worries that its independence was compromised following Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented that “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to advocate for its independence ensuring that it can achieve the social mission, the values which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he told media outlets.
