The Gunners' boss feels assured that his squad can keep managing with injury setbacks after revealing that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

The Germany international has been absent since August following knee surgery. Initially expected to return at the start of this month, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when increasing his training and failed to reach “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is considerably steadier and has more options,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This news presents a selection headache for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role last weekend, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains an option after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Linger

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to perform various functions if we aim to challenge at the top. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Speaking about the delay highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his keenness to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, Havertz is someone that, in my view, I love so much for the qualities he offers to the team, but his mentality, his personality. I watch him struggle on the sidelines.”
