No fewer than 16 people have lost their lives after a enormous fire erupted at a clothing factory in Bangladesh, with emergency services cautioning that the death toll could climb.

16 bodies have been found but were incinerated beyond recognition, the fire service stated.

Distraught relatives assembled outside the four-level factory in Dhaka's Mirpur area on Tuesday in seeking their loved ones still not found.

The fire, which erupted at the factory around noon, was extinguished after multiple hours. But an neighboring chemical warehouse remained ablaze, emergency services confirmed.
