Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her US tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose influence on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
