A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely let down if it fails to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded following a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the industry. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for relief efforts.
Lullaby was produced by a team of music creators. The single features a mix of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the campaign have stated that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These proceeds will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“There is no a specific target,” a figure explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was noted for its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a couple of million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The song is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
