Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
