The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster unveiling last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the need for a more defined vision.
The president noted that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
This announcement echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire text from the president's communication:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to consideration and reimagined the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The belief in this project grows every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of 31st Union. Following some time of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having spent the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting Ben soon. We are all excited to continue observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
